The Food Scene in La Jolla
The downtown area of La Jolla offers so many options for food and drinks in easy walking distance from the cottage. Pearl street has been an emerging corridor of high quality casual dining, while Gerard Avenue offers both casual and fine dining options. Prospect street, the main tourism corridor offers even more options. Every restaurant that is listed here is within walking distance of the cottage. If you are visiting the cottage and have a specific food craving, please ask for a recommendation because there are too many great places to list all of them here.
Breakfast Spots
- Flower Pot - good espresso, muffins and scones baked onsite, egg dishes, burritos. Great place to sit and read the paper or work.
- Lilli An Italian inspired pastry and coffee place with a shaded decked for relaxing.
- Breakfast Republic - full breakfast with full bar. A chain, but guests have enjoyed
- The Cottage -A favorite among San Diegans
- MORE...There are so many more coffee and breakfast places with walking distance... Java Earth, Better Buzz Cafe, Parakeet Cafe
Lunch
- Small Goods - Small cheese and cured meat shop that makes great sandwiches. The platter above is from Small Goods. They make beautiful trays for events.
- The Taco Stand - Elevated tacos made with house-made corn tortillas. Worth the wait in the line. Go for it, if you walk by and there's no line.
- Pizza on Pearl - Next to the Taco Stand. Solid pizza by the slice or whole pizzas . They also have salads and pizza dough "knots".
- El Pescador - Fresh seafood simply prepared for sandwiches, salads or plates with rice and vegetables. Can also purchase seafood to prepare at home.
Casual Dinner
- Pamir Kabob House - Family owned restaurant serving afghan cuisine. Nicely seasoned meats and vegetarian options. Will usually have tables when other places are busy.
- Bernini's -Mediterranean cuisine. Large outdoor patio. Across the street from Pavilion's on Fay.
- Sammy's Woodfired Pizza - Local staple for easy dinner. California / Mediterranean cuisine.
- Public House -Pub with an impressive selection of beer, Belgian and otherwise. Hamburgers, salads and appetizers, slightly elevated from regular pub grub but still affordable and casual.
Fine Dining
- Bistro Du Marche - On Girard, almost directly behind the cottage. Excellent french cuisine with elegant sauces and friendly service.
- Ambrogio - New Italian Cuisine, just one block away. Next to Bernini's.
- Catania- A few blocks away on Girard. Excellent seafood. Love the branzino.
- Himitsu- Traditional sushi and nigiri along with Japanese style tapas.
Others places worth mentioning.
- Candor - Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. A local favorite on Torrey Pines road with extensive outdoor patio.
- Sushi Nekosan - Very good sushi,less expensive than Himitsu.
- Aroi Thai - Thai cuisine located very close by in the parking lot of Pavilions grocery store.
- Verdes El Ranchero - Mexican food. Definitely a local hangout. The food is solid. The margaritas are very good but can be very loud.
- La Corriente - Mexican Pacific coastal cuisine. They serve wine and beer but do not have a full liquor license. The ceviches are excellent, and they are known for their octopus dish.
